New Emergency Preparedness Event includes fun education for children

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Residents of all ages and businesses of The Woodlands are invited to attend the annual Township Emergency Preparedness Event on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., from 10 a.m. to noon to learn how to prepare for hurricanes and other emergencies.

This event is a great opportunity for younger residents to understand their role in preparedness while they make their own first-aid kit and other fun activities. Smokey Bear and Texas A&M Fire Service will help them learn about fire safety as well. It is important for everyone in the community to be prepared for an emergency, and proper planning is the best wat to get ready.

The Woodlands Get Ready event makes it possible to have conversations with disaster preparedness experts, energy providers and other organizations that will help create a personalized preparedness plan for individuals, families and neighborhoods. Displays, public safety vehicles, free promotional items and more will be available at this educational event. The Woodlands Township will offer a free flashlight/charger to those attending, while supplies last.

CenterPoint, the Presenting Sponsor for this event, will share a presentation on their role in an emergency and will offer many safety tips for working with utilities. Entergy, as the Silver Sponsor, will share information on how they prepare for emergencies and how the restoration process works. Also, The Woodlands Township will provide information on the resources and tools available to our residents and how to stay informed.

McCormack Fire will be on hand to certify fire extinguishers to those who bring it to the event. They can also advise on the proper use, storage, and placement of your fire extinguisher.
