THE WOODLANDS, TX – Local businessman and Conroe Independent School Board member Skeeter Hubert recently announced his candidacy for Representative of District 15 of the Texas State House of Representatives, a position currently held by Steve Toth. The announcement came at a public-and-media event at Woodson’s Local Tap on FM 1488 this week.

Hubert felt the time was perfect to make his announcement now for the 2024 primary and general elections occurring, respectively, next May and November.

“I’ve always wanted to do this, but I have four kids who are growing up; my youngest is a junior who will be graduating in May of next year. The primary is in March, and Election Day will be November, so it’s perfect timing,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with Woodlands Online, Hubert discussed issues he felt faced the district – which includes a reach into The Woodlands, Conroe, Spring, and areas on the east side of Interstate 45 in Montgomery County.

“The biggest issue I have right now is the lack of representation for District 15,” he said. “No one is talking to Shenandoah, no one is talking to Oak Ridge North, no one’s talking to the chambers of commerce or business owners. I’ve gone on and sat down with these people to talk with them. There are all kinds of issues going on in our district – water issues, transportation issues, education issues – that need to be addressed, and I figured it was time for me to step up, using my experience from being on the Conroe ISD school board over the past eight years, and from being a resident here since 1997.”

One of the areas in particular that Hubert feels needs addressing is transportation. “North and south, east and west, it needs improvement. As you see right here at this event on FM 1488, it’s completely backed up.”

Hubert also feels that education is the heartbeat of the community, and that this education is under attack right now.

“We need to strengthen our district to ensure our children are safe and are provided an education that helps make them successful and college ready or career ready,” he said. “We need to get off the backs of the teachers; they’re being attacked by so many organizations that don’t know what it takes to walk into a classroom. Teachers need to be left alone and people need to stop thinking our teachers are about indoctrination. They’re just happy when their students turn in their homework; they’re not interested in indoctrinating them.”

Hubert encourages people to ask him questions about his campaign by following him on Facebook.
