HOUSTON, TX -- The Honors College at Lone Star College produces high-achieving and culturally competent citizens capable of competing nationally and globally.

Victoria Moreno, a first-generation immigrant from Venezuela, said the LSC Honors College gave her the foundational resources to excel at the University of Texas at Austin. Moreno will continue to use those skills when she attends Harvard Law School this fall as a first-year law student.

“The Honors College was instrumental in helping me achieve my next steps after Lone Star College, which included transferring to UT at Austin and applying to law school,” said Moreno. “This high-quality program helped me build and gain valuable skills and experiences that I feel made my application to law school stand out,” said Moreno.

The LSC Honors College offers vigorous scholar opportunities that challenge students to think at a high level, conduct top-level research projects and develop possible solutions to solve global issues. The program prepares students like Moreno to transfer to top universities nationwide, giving them a leg up on their peers.

“Overall, the Honors College was instrumental in my academic and professional success, such as law school, and it continues to inspire me to seek out opportunities to give back to the community,” said Moreno. “The undergraduate research projects helped my writing and presentation skills and made me more confident to participate in lectures and projects at UT at Austin.”

Moreno graduated from Lone Star College with an associate of arts degree and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. She took a gap year before applying to law school and traveled to Spain, where she taught English to elementary students. Moreno is excited about studying law at Harvard Law School and is interested in becoming a government attorney.

“After high school, I knew I didn’t have the skills to succeed at a top-tier university but attending Lone Star College allowed me to get the best of both worlds,” said Moreno. “I received a top-notch education that prepared me well for the rigors of higher education. Attending Lone Star College was undoubtedly one of my best educational decisions.”

The Honors College at LSC offers applicants from various backgrounds an opportunity to take their college education to the next level. Students travel and participate in educational and cultural events, service learning projects, conferences and special seminars. Recently, Honors College students earned Outstanding Delegation and Distinguished Delegation at the National Model United Nations Conference for their presentations on Ghana and The Association for Women’s Rights in Development.

“The Honors College at Lone Star College offers innovative and quality programming that sets high-achieving students like Moreno up for success to compete in a global world,” said Katharine Caruso, Ph.D., LSC Associate Vice Chancellor Honors and International Education. “When our students achieve greatness, it changes the perception of the type of education community colleges, like Lone Star College, can offer students.”
