THE WOODLANDS, TX – As we head into the weekend, some of us in The Woodlands are still without power, or having to affect repairs on our roofs. The storm that swiftly raged through the area Wednesday night caused significant damage to the area, leaving practically every area of the Township in a damaged condition to some extent. The blazing heat hasn’t helped matters much, as our electricity-less homes offer scant relief from the heat. In fact, a Heat Advisory has been issued through at least Saturday night – possibly to be extended – with little relief in sight.

You’ll be picking up the pieces in the heat

Throughout the rest of our Friday, the winds will kick up – nothing like the 100-mph gusts that hit us earlier – and partly cloudy skies will partially block out the sun, allowing our high to keep in a relatively moderate 86 degrees. Unfortunately, the wetness from the storms has upped the humidity, turning The Woodlands into one big outdoors steam bath, and our heat index will actually raise the ‘feels-like’ temperature about 15 degrees. A slight chance of some additional rains this evening won’t help the humidity, and we’ll be hard pressed to get under 80 for our overnight low. Maybe you can cool things down a bit with some dueling pianos at Sawyer Park Icehouse.

Saturday morning will see a dip in the winds but an increase in the clouds. Our high pressure system will max out before lunchtime, which will bring some winds back, gusting up to about 10 mph – a tenth of the storm’s gusts. Though the midafternoon high will only get up to 99, the heat index will add about another 12 degrees, so please maintain proper heat safety measures. May we suggest attending a special pre-premiere screening of the locally produced feature film, Bailey’s Voice, taking place this evening at Class Act Productions?

Sunday will again start off with some increasing clouds, which will die down as the afternoon progresses. We’ll probably have a ‘natural high’ temp of 100, with it feeling like 113. The moderate winds will remain as the pressure plummets, and we’ll be looking at our third overnight low of 79 in a row. If you feel the need to express yourself, head over to Painting With a Twist for a relaxing yet creatively productive time.

While the storm might be behind us, the upcoming week(s) don’t seem like they’ll be offering any relief from the ever-increasing heat and humidity…
