Summer Reading Program

HCPL’s Summer Reading Program is officially here! The theme for this year is “All Together Now!” Join us from June 5th - August 5th to log your reading minutes on the Beanstack app and earn free prizes for everyone! Join other babies and parents/caregivers for weekly story time fun! Baby Bookworms uses age-appropriate stories, songs and finger plays, and playtime to engage babies and their parents/caregivers. Houston Repertoire Ballet: Vivaldi's Four Seasons

Houston Repertoire Ballet presents Vivaldi's Four Seasons, performed by Houston area high school students. Enjoy Vivaldi's masterful score brought to life through the grace, elegance, and strength of classical ballet. This program is for all ages. LEGO Create

Pokémon League
Saturday, August 5 from 1:30-3:30 PM
Love playing the Pokémon card game and discussing all things Pokémon with fellow fans? Join the Pokémon League every first and third Saturday, sponsored by the Magnolia City Pokémon Gym. Bring your favorite deck, play the card game with other fans, and talk all things strategy. This event is open to all ages and skill levels. For more information, call the library at 832-559-4200.

Learn to Play Magic: the Gathering
Every 1st Saturday from 1 PM – 2 PM in the Community Engagement Area Come join us in the Community Engagement Area (CEA) on the 1st floor, to the right of the front entrance, to learn and play the popular game-- Magic: the Gathering. Wednesday, August 2nd from 10:30 AM - 12 PM in the Teen Space Get ready for a new school year by creating your own back-to-school locker kits! Decorate & pack your kit with back-to-school essentials.

END OF SUMMER PICNIC PARTY
Saturday, August 5th from 2 PM – 4 PM in the Teen Space
You asked, we’re delivering! We’re having a picnic party to celebrate the end of Summer Reading! We’ll meet in the Teen Space and then walk to our location. Don’t worry, it’ll be indoors!

We are taking a short break this month, so please stay tuned for what’s coming in September! Saturday STEAM Spaces will continue as normal throughout August.

Soldiers Supplies Donations
All month long, 1st floor elevators
We will be collecting donations all month long to be sent to Boots for Troops, a local non-profit that mails care packages to troops deployed across the globe. Items needed for donation include dry snacks, toiletries, books, candy, ground coffee, letters of encouragement, etc. Donations can be dropped off at the library’s 1st floor elevators in the donation box. Young at heART: Watercolor Group

Watercolor for “Young at heART” adults meet every Tuesday morning to enjoy watercolor painting while commiserating with fellow artists! This friendly and social group is open to all adults and to all levels of art experience, including those who have never painted with watercolor at all. This lecture will go over how to use Zoom to chat with friends and family and take virtual classes with Senior Planet! You’ll learn about useful Zoom features, whether you’re connecting with an iOS, Android, or Windows device. This orientation session will introduce participants to the basics of converting their media to digital using the equipment in the Digitization Station at the LSC - Tomball Community Library. Innovation Lab Orientations:

Laser Cutter Orientation
Thursday, August 3rd from 4:30 PM – 7 PM
This orientation session will introduce participants to laser cutter services within the Harris County Public Library system. Those completing the class will then be able to schedule a time to use a laser cutter at HCPL maker locations. This class is appropriate for patrons ages 12 and up. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and space is limited.
