Most schools in The Woodlands resume Wednesday

THE WOODLANDS, TX - Schools in Conroe Independent School District resume classes Wednesday morning, meaning a significant percentage of school zones will be in effect. Most private schools in The Woodlands - such as The John Cooper School or The Woodlands Christian Academy - along with Woodlands-area schools in Tomball Independent School District won't start classes until next week.
Keep tabs on school zones and keep cool
To be safe, all drivers this week should keep an eye out on school zones, buses, and pedestrians each time they get behind the wheel, and particularly during individual school zone hours. It is illegal to be using a cell phone in a school zone - with fines reaching up to $200 - or other handheld device, and it's guaranteed that law enforcement will be out en masse to ensure the laws and regulations are obeyed.
Additionally, new crosswalk laws give pedestrians in most crosswalks the right of way even in between intersections, and crossing guards have legal authority to stop traffic. It is unlawful to pass a school bus when it displays flashing red lights and / or a stop sign indicator; if there is no median in the road, traffic in both directions needs to stop until the bus stops flashing its red lights. If there is a physical median (not painted yellow lines) separating the two different directions of the street, oncoming traffic does not need to stop, but should still exercise caution.
Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for traffic updates during the Conroe ISD, Tomball ISD, and Woodlands-area private school year.
