THE WOODLANDS, TX – Henry’s Home Horse and Human Sanctuary is a Conroe-based nonprofit organization that takes in rescued and surrendered horses, giving them a forever home and meaningful work in their Horses & Heroes Equine Learning Program for veterans and first responders, and their Herdmate Community Volunteer Program for civilians. The organization also offers a Horses & Heroes Ranch Life Mentoring Program for veterans, first responders, and civilians.

Spouses Jim and Cindy Laufer – along with West Point graduates Jeff and Rachael Smith – are members of Henry’s Home’s board of directors. They have announced an upcoming event featuring a silent auction to raise funds and awareness for the sanctuary and its programs, and are currently seeking donations for the auction.

“This year, we are having our annual fundraiser, a BBQ cook-off on November 12,” said Jim Laufer. “We have two bands that have volunteered their time and ten groups of first responders for the BBQ Cook-Off so far. We hope to have a turnout of 400 people. We have people from all walks of life involved with our ranch – professionals, entrepreneurs, large corporations as well as Veterans groups and small businesses.”

Henry’s Home, which is completely volunteer run and depends on fundraisers, community help, and grants to keep going, is hoping to have local businesses in The Woodlands and Conroe areas donate goods and/or services to the silent auction; all donations are tax deductible. “Of course, you are invited up to the ranch anytime to see our horses and see what we do for the men and women who have served us,” said Laufer.
