THE WOODLANDS, TX – Condition 1 Combat Center, one of the newest and most innovative martial arts schools in The Woodlands area, recently held its second kid-centric workshop. The ‘Back to School Bullyproof Heroes Seminar’ taught a group of young students aged 7 through 12 how to handle bullies.

‘Back to School Bullyproof Heroes Seminar’ has real-world lessons

Professor Matt Smith led the martial arts-based, free-to-attend, interactive seminar that equips children with life skills that last a lifetime by empowering them to stand tall against bullying, fostering unbreakable confidence and self-defense know-how.

“We teach kids how to deal with bullies because it’s a serious issue in schools,” said Smith in an exclusive interview with Woodlands Online. “As soon as school started this year, we started getting calls from parents and kids who have trained here and who haven’t alike, calling to say that their kids are getting bullied and if we could help with anything. It’s a complicated issue and there are things we have to do in the school system but we know that we can help with part of it by giving the child to be more confident and have more self-esteem and protect themself. Sometimes just standing straight with confidence is enough to make bullies look away; but even if that doesn’t happen we can give them the tools to take care of themselves.”

A major aspect of the seminar was teaching the ‘3 Ts’ – Talk, Tell Tackle. “The first step is to talk to the person bullying you and let them know you don’t like it. The next step is to inform the bully that you will tell on them to anyone who could be involved – from teachers to school administration to parents to law enforcement. If these first two Ts fail, and the bully continues and advances and becomes physical, then you resort to the final T: tackle.”

Condition 1 Combat Center is a multi-discipline martial arts training school that focuses on teaching Krav Maga with other martial arts training. All ages are welcome. The school is a locally-owned, family business started by Joe and Tia Morris. Joe is a 2nd Degree Krav Maga Black Belt Instructor. Joe is also a Marine veteran who served during multiple combat missions in Iraq.

Beyond the seminar for children, adult classes are also offered in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and CrossFit, all with the goal of teaching real-world responses to real-world situations.

“Proper martial arts has a strong ethical basis, and we try to convey that when you get angry, the fists come down, and when the anger is gone and you’re in defense mode, the fists come up,” said Smith.
