DOBBIN, TX -- Saturday mornings heading West on Hwy 105 can be hectic even without gameday weekends. But with Texas A&M fans going to tailgating festivities for the big game, plus numbers being doubled this week with Alabama visiting in College Station, the roads can become especially dangerous. Unfortunately drivers were delayed just before the bridge in Dobbin, when debris on the shoulder caused several riders in a group from The Woodlands to tumble. Traffic was backed up several miles in both directions.

The accident happened at 9:34 am, when the lead two riders traveling East on 105 were downed with bumps and bruises. One rider sustained facial injuries that bloodied his face, the other with other injuries.

``There was some sort of debris on the road shoulder,`` said one rider, who only identified himself as Wayne. ``We were coming down from the bridge so the speeds were increased. That coupled with looking out for the regular distractions of the road can be hazardous for the guys up front.``

The Montgomery County Emergency Services District #2 Fire Station, in Dobbin, literally located 500 feet from the accident, responded almost immediately. They began administering first-aid to the injured riders, as one the crew directed traffic. The Montgomery Police Department sent two cruisers that arrived after ten minutes to help with traffic control. An ambulance arrived soon after. MPD was later relieved by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, to close out the scene.

``We had two bikes and no other vehicles involved in the incident,`` said Montgomery Fire Department Battalion Chief, Rusty Griffith. ``Two people were transported to the hospital with non-threatening injuries.``

Groups of bicycle riders are not uncommon on Hwy 105, and it is important to know that the State has designated Texas Bicycle Laws that are designed to improve the safety of drivers and bicyclists. The laws combined with clean shoulders will ensure that bicycle groups that travel Montgomery County roads are as safe as possible.
