THE WOODLANDS, TX – Quote of the week: “Two guys walk into a bar; you’d think the second guy would’ve noticed and ducked.” — Anonymous

We’re rocketing towards Halloween, and the weather will alternate between playing nice and being downright spooky. Either way, there are some amazing events on tap for you this week. Here’s a list of five of our favorites!

ALL WEEK, October 16 - 22

Academy Award winner and clean energy advocate Louis Gossett, Jr., will be a celebrity judge of the Climate Champions Youth Art Contest – Texas Edition, which runs through November 1 for students in grades 1-12 in The Woodlands / Spring area. The free educational contest aims to provide students a unique opportunity to have a voice in helping to safeguard the Earth through the power of art. Students can submit their original artwork by taking a picture of it with their phones or scanning it, and uploading the file in a submission form on the contest site. Winners in each grade category will receive prizes, including Visa Gift Card cash prizes, t-shirts, and certificates. The contest deadline is November 1. The contest is produced by Climate Canaries, a local youth climate awareness organization.

Get ready for The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s spookiest night of the year… it’s time for the annual appearance of the Houston Symphony for Hocus Pocus Pops, which might be an even bigger deal than Halloween itself. There’s all the trick-or-treating and kiddos in costumes and ghastly guys and ghouls…plus the haunting symphony in all its sinister splendor. Expect creepy classics like character pictures, the Halloween Express and, of course, the Goblin Parade to make their return. Mezzanine and lawn seating are free for all performing arts events. Tickets for most performances are $20 for orchestra seating.
