UPDATE 2 : MCTX Sheriff Investigates Shooting on Bitter Root Drive in Porter, TX

PORTER, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the homicide that occurred on Bitter Root Drive yesterday evening. The victim in this case has been identified as 25-year-old male Vyshawn Johnson of California.

Detectives with the Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit are seeking the public’s help in identifying a possible suspect pictured above, who is described as a black male. The suspect vehicle, previously pictured yesterday, is described as a Grey Pontiac Sedan with dark-tinted windows and a red Pontiac emblem on the hood.

On November 1, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 20100 block of Bitter Root Drive in reference to an assault with a firearm call. Upon arrival, Deputies observed a 25-year-old male lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot wounds who was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives with the Homicide and Violent Crimes Division, along with Crime Scene Investigators and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, are conducting their investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates there was an altercation between two males who knew each other. The suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.

The suspect has not been identified at this time. The suspect was observed leaving the area in a Grey Pontiac Sedan with dark-tinted windows and a red Pontiac emblem on the hood.

This is still an ongoing investigation. There is no other information available at this time.
