Sterling Ridge Village Association’s BBQ Challenge & Kids Festival raises $11K in scholarships
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Sterling Ridge Village Association (SRVA) held its 16th annual BBQ Challenge & Kids Festival on October 21 at Cranebrook Park.
“Thanks to very generous sponsors, $11,700 was raised and will be used for donations to local elementary schools and freshmen college scholarships for village students,” said the association in a statement.
The attendance was enormous on a sunny fall day as residents enjoyed the fantastic BBQ cooked up by neighborhood teams, as well as fun activities for kids. Along with face-painting, rides, and bouncy houses, people enjoyed meeting heroes from the fire department, Sheriff’s deputies, and Township representatives, along with representatives of some local businesses that offer great services.
For the competition, awards were given for the best in categories of ribs, pulled pork, brisket and beans, as well as the President’s Award for best overall. This year there was also a fan favorite award that was dedicated in memory of village resident Roger Christ, who passed away recently in a tragic vehicle accident.
The neighborhood of Ledgestone, organized by Suzi Leighton, Roger’s widow, took home a number of awards, including the fan favorite and President’s Award for their deliciously smoked meats and beans. The neighborhood of Abramwoods won for best brisket.
Sponsors for this fun event included Ivan and Natalia Arjona REMAX Realtors, BMW of the Woodlands, Bastion Engineering, Ezee Fiber, Sheriff Rand Henderson, County Commissioner James Noack, Accent Shutters and Shades, Wheeler Pediatric Dentistry, Hughes & Cozad Orthodontics, and The Howard Hughes Corporation.
