HOUSTON, TX -- The Lone Star College Board of Trustees honored LSC Chancellor Emeritus Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., during its Dec. 14 meeting by renaming the Lone Star Community Building at LSC-System Office, The Woodlands to the Stephen C. Head, Ph.D. Building. Head retired Aug. 1 after 39 years of service.

“Dr. Head’s leadership was exceptional. I worked closely with him on federal, state, and local governance policy formulation and reviews resulting in Lone Star College’s continued position at the forefront of national and Texas community colleges in areas such as instructional and workforce offerings, legal compliance, and financial growth,” said Michael Stoma, LSC Board of Trustees chair.

Head began his career with LSC in 1984 and had over 30 years in high-level positions at LSC, including serving as president at three LSC campuses and executive vice chancellor. During that time, he focused on student access, equality, success and completion; academic quality; workforce programs in alignment with community needs; and collaborative agreements with educational, business and local civic organizations.

“Dr. Head devoted his career to helping students, families and the community thrive by spearheading initiatives, resulting in their success,” said Jim Cain, Ed.D., LSC Board of Trustees assistant secretary. “It is only fitting to recognize his life’s work by renaming the Lone Star Community Building in his honor.”

The newly named Stephen C. Head, Ph.D. Building houses state-of-the-art conference and banquet rooms open to the system and community for educational and professional development classes and conferences.
