UPDATE: Wintry Weather Descends on Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- UDPATE:

Conroe Waste Management has paused collections due to Road Conditions. Waste Management (WM) implemented its severe weather response plan on January 15, 2024, at 10:40 am due to the hazardous road conditions that have developed over the last few hours due to winter weather conditions. At this time, WM has paused collection service in the Conroe area to avoid dangerous road conditions and support the safety of our drivers and communities. WM will continue to monitor weather and road conditions and restart curbside collection as soon as conditions improve. The company will expand its routes to additional areas as more streets become safe for our trucks. Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this winter weather event.

Conroe Public Information Officer, Andrew Yousse, is reporting:

The Conroe Salvation Army, located at 304 Avenue E in Conroe, will be available to those needing a warming center during the cold temperatures.

The Compassion United campus at 350 Foster Drive in Conroe will be open as a warming station the whole day, and lunch will be served there.

The Over Under fellowship, 600 S Frazier St; and Sacred Heart Life Center, 708 Old Montgomery Rd; have announced they are open as warming centers.

A jackknifed Fed-Ex Tractor-Trailer is being reported on the shoulder of
I-45 South, just before the League Line Road exit.

At 1488 on I-45 South, and single car accident is being attended to by
safety crews.

Chief Edwards, from the Montgomery Fire Department, MCESD #2, is
reporting numerous minor traffic accidents.

10:59am
City of Conroe, PIO, Andrew Yousse, reports that the city will be having
an emergency meeting at 11:30am to discuss Winter Weather plans.

1774 bridge is shut down due to icy conditions

All main lanes of 249 are closed due to icy roads.

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has received reports of icing on numerous roads in the county.

Roads with current reports of icing:

* Lone Star Parkway at Buffalo Springs
* FM 1097
* I-45
* Hwy 242
* I-69
* Fm-1488
* Old Conroe Road
* FM 1774 * SH-99
(Not a complete list, updated as reports come in)

"Most overpasses and bridges are seeing icing now," said Jason Millsaps, Chief of Staff to County Judge Mark Keough. "Conditions will likely not improve."

MCEM implores that drivers use caution while driving if you absolutely have to be out on the roads.
