HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College has been recognized by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine as a Top Degree Producer for institutions conferring associate degrees to minority students. LSC ranked third in the nation among community colleges for the number of minority students graduating in all disciplines combined.

“Lone Star College is committed to helping all students finish what they started,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSC chancellor. “I am gratified that our student success reflects the richly diverse community in which we are located.”

LSC also ranked fifth for the number of Hispanic students earning an associate degree, eighth for the number of Asian American students earning a degree and 11th nationwide for the number of African American students obtaining a degree. The rankings are based on degrees conferred in 2021-22, the most recent data available.

“We will continue to provide all necessary resources for our students so they can remain focused on their studies and earn their degree,” said Castillo. “I am proud of the tremendous work done by our faculty and staff to ensure our students are successful.”

The data for the Top 100 annual analysis come from the “Completions Survey” of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), collected by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics.
