First Place Robotics Champion

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Phantom, the First Tech Challenge Community team from The Rubicon Academy and Woodlands Robotics, coached by Katie Kelley, took first place at their regional meet this past week. They are now First in Texas and Tenth in the World. They will go on to compete at Regionals this upcoming week. Congratulations to this hard working team! FIRST Tech Challenge students learn to think like engineers. Teams design, build, and code robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are built from a reusable platform, powered by Android technology, and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming.

The Rubicon Academy, located in The Woodlands, was founded in 1998 to provide a challenging and enjoyable education for bright and gifted children aged 18 months to 13 years old.

The philosophy of The Rubicon Academy states that a goal of high expectations and excellence for students is possible through discipline and order tempered by warmth and a concern for each child. The Academy believes that at the elementary level, the curriculum serves as the foundation for all future learning.
The Rubicon Academy offers children the opportunity to acquire a solid
grounding in basic skills, paced according to the child's needs, to develop through interdisciplinary study the ability to relate to the world in which the child lives to the world of books and ideas, to think logically and creatively and to use the special talents each child possesses.
In groups of 2 to 10 students, each child receives instruction tailored to his/her particular needs. Children regularly travel to museums, galleries, work places, and other sites where actual experience will enhance classroom learning.
