Lone Star College is ready to help you get out of the financial aid maze
HOUSTON, TX -- Dealing with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can feel like you are trapped in Houston traffic, but there is good news. Lone Star College has experts on hand to help you navigate out of the FAFSA slowdown and get your education back on track.
“There is a lot of uncertainty among high school seniors on where they can go to school this fall due to not receiving financial offers until early or mid-July,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSC chancellor. “That makes it difficult for students to properly put together a four-year plan they hope to start in August.”
The advantages of starting at a community college are well known. Students take the same core classes at less than one-third of the cost. Plus, community colleges are known to be career-focused with smaller class sizes leading to more personal attention.
“Lone Star College has financial aid specialists on hand to help those affected by the delay and can find many ways to pay for college, including scholarships, grants, work-study programs and even book advances for qualified students,” said Castillo. “Lone Star College also provides an excellent pathway to a university with advisors to help ensure credits transfer toward finishing a bachelor's degree.”
In addition to offering financial aid, LSC features the CARE for Completion program that ensures every student has access to food, housing, clothing, employment, mental health and academic support resources.
According to statistics from StudentAid.Gov, estimated completion percentages of applications for the 2024/2025 FAFSA academic cycle through May 17, 2024, are down by 10 – 20%, including Aldine, Conroe, Cypress-Fairbanks, Humble and Tomball ISD’s, all located within the LSC service area.
More and more of today’s students are making the smart choice by enrolling in Lone Star College for a quality education that won’t break the bank. Visit LoneStar.edu/Financial-Help and put your education in the fast lane.
