Lone Star College-Montgomery Students Exhibit 'Lone Star Rising' at Ardest Gallery in the Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Art Department at Lone Star College-Montgomery (LSC-M) is excited to announce a collaborative project with the Ardest Gallery, a vibrant commercial art space near Third Gen Coffee in the Woodlands. Throughout the month of May, the gallery will host a special exhibition featuring selected artworks by talented students from LSC-M, culminating in a reception on May 10th to celebrate this exceptional partnership.
This exhibition not only showcases the remarkable creative talents of our students but also serves as an invaluable real-world learning experience. Through this collaboration with gallery owner Julie Verville, students will gain essential insights into the art industry, including the nuances of selling, pricing, and presenting their work in a professional environment.
“Part of the gallery’s mission is to connect with the local community through art,” said Julie Verville. “This exciting collaboration with LSC-M provides a platform for these talented art students to showcase their diverse works in a professional gallery setting, off campus during the month of May.”
In preparation for the show, Verville hosted a workshop on March 25th, where she shared best practices for emerging artists and emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with galleries. This hands-on experience is intended to empower students and positively impact their future careers in art.
Darren Longman, the executive editor of SWIRL’s Literature and Arts magazine and a professor at LSC-Montgomery, has worked with Verville and the students involved in the upcoming gallery event. He explains, "The goal of 'Lone Star Rising' is to foster a community partnership between the LSC-M Art Department and the Ardest Gallery, while also providing our students with real-world experience. Although our campus exhibition space, the Mary Matteson-Parrish Art Gallery, serves as an excellent starting point for our student artists, this initiative offers them the opportunity to learn essential skills for exhibiting in private galleries. These include how to photograph, market, prepare, and price their works according to specific curatorial standards."
We are excited to offer a wonderful opportunity for our student artists at LSC-M to showcase their work at the Ardest Gallery! As they embark on this creative journey, it's essential to note that once the artwork is at the gallery, the responsibility will shift to the artists and the gallery team. The artist will coordinate directly with Verville for details such as pick-up, drop-off, and any possible sales.
The partnership between LSC-M and Ardest Gallery aligns perfectly with our goal to promote outstanding student artistic achievements and enhance their education through practical experience. Join us for the opening reception on May 10th to meet the artists, view their incredible work, and engage with our artistic community.
