Summer Reading Program at Your Library is June 2nd-July 26th

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Color Our World is this year’s Montgomery County Memorial Library System’s (MCMLS) Summer Reading Program theme. All ages, from children and preteens to teens and adults, may participate from June 2 through July 26, 2025. MCMLS’s seven branch libraries across Montgomery County will host free events during the eight-week program, along with a self-paced reading challenge designed to foster literacy through engaging incentives.
“The Summer Reading Program is an opportunity for our community to participate in enriching and entertaining programs while enhancing literacy,” said Dr. Janna Hoglund, Library Director for MCMLS. “It gives us a chance to showcase our libraries and welcome everyone to join in.”
Children, teens, and adults may track their reading either by books or minutes. Reading to others, listening to audiobooks, and reading articles, newspapers, or e-books all count toward the reading goals. Participants may register in May on the Reader Zone app, but reading and logging cannot begin until June 2. Alternatively, participants can pick up a paper reading log at any local branch. Upon reaching their reading goal, participants can present their completed logs at their home branch to redeem a reward.
Registration for reading is not required to attend events. All events are free and open to the public, though some may require preregistration due to limited space or supplies. Programming throughout the summer includes activities for all ages, such as art, crafts, games, movies, book clubs, storytellers, magicians, wildlife presentations, coding workshops, scavenger hunts, henna art, knitting, and pizza parties.
These events and supplies are made possible through County funding, support from the Friends of the Library groups, and in-kind donations from sponsors. The Montgomery County Commissioners and Judge, along with the Libraries’ nonprofit Friends groups, help support summer reading events and collections. Artwork for this year’s theme is provided by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

Founded in 1948, MCMLS celebrates literacy year-round through fun, educational programs for children, teens, and adults, and circulates more than 2.5 million items annually. Today, MCMLS proudly serves nearly 400,000 library patrons and cardholders across seven branches throughout Montgomery County.
