Road Rage Incident Ends in Armed Threat: Sheriff Wesley Doolittle Intervenes to Prevent Further Violence

MAGNOLIA, TX -- In a powerful demonstration of leadership in action, Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle personally intervened in a dangerous road rage incident just moments before a scheduled dedication ceremony honoring retired Sheriff Tommy Gage.

While sitting in traffic on FM 1488 enroute to officially rename the West Montgomery County Annex in Magnolia, Sheriff Doolittle witnessed a physical altercation erupt near the intersection of FM 1488 and FM 1774. The incident escalated quickly when one of the individuals exited his vehicle, initiated a physical confrontation, and then produced a firearm, threatening the other driver.
Recognizing the imminent danger to the victim and nearby motorists, Sheriff Doolittle sprang into action without hesitation. He successfully disarmed the suspect, secured the weapon, and detained the individual until additional law enforcement officers arrived to take over the investigation.

Thanks to Sheriff Doolittle’s swift and decisive response, the situation was brought under control without injury. The suspect, Vernon Cradier, 55 years of age was arrested by Magnolia Police Department for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was transported to the Sheriff Tommy Gage Magnolia Annex Jail for booking.

“Sheriff Doolittle is a leader who leads from the front,” said Lt. Scott Spencer. “His actions during this incident are a reminder of his deep commitment to public safety and his understanding of the real-world risks our deputies face every day.”

After securing the scene and briefing responding units, Sheriff Doolittle continued on to the annex dedication ceremony, where the building was officially renamed in honor of Sheriff Gage’s decades of dedicated service.

“This isn’t just a story of quick thinking,” said Lt. Spencer. “It’s a testament to Sheriff Doolittle’s character. In less than five months in office, he’s proven that he’s not one to sit behind a desk. He’s a career lawman, hands-on, committed, and always ready to protect the people of Montgomery County.”
