Rolling Thunder to Kick Off 4th of July Parade with Cannon Salute

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The South County 4th of July Committee is proud to announce that Rolling Thunder, a 3/4 scale replica of an 1841 Mississippi field cannon, will provide a cannon salute to start the 4th of July parade. This historic cannon, known for its powerful and loud blasts, has been a symbol of Texas history and spirit for over 18 years.

Rolling Thunder, built to the specifications of a 6-pounder cannon, is a true Texas native. It has been featured in parades and ceremonial activities across the state, including notable locations such as Washington on the Brazos, the Alamo, and the San Jacinto Battleground. The cannon is fired using a friction primer, making it safer and more efficient.

The Lone Star Volunteers, a dedicated group of trained cannoneers, have been instrumental in preserving and showcasing Texas history through Rolling Thunder. They have participated in numerous events, parades, and firing demonstrations, educating the public about the rich heritage of Texas. “Rolling Thunder is more than just a cannon: it’s a piece of living history”, said Mike Wilson, owner and Cannon Commander. “We are honored to share this piece of history with the community and celebrate our heritage in such a memorable way.”
