THE WOODLANDS, TX – Spring officially becomes summer today at 9:42 p.m., the zenith of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Starting Saturday, the first full day of summer, the days will slowly but surely lessen – today, our daylight hours are fourteen hours and three minutes long; by the time we hit the winter solstice, daylight will last ten and a quarter hours.

For those visiting The Woodlands – or for the residents who have been too busy with school and work to notice – the township offers many engaging activities custom-built for summer. We have many nature trails for hiking and biking. You can also kayak and paddleboard on Lake Woodlands and The Woodlands Waterway. Creekside Park offers playgrounds and splash pads, while parks like Northshore are popular for picnics.

Summer here includes local events like the Grogan’s Mill Farmers Market, among others, and festivals. The local music scene kicks into high gear with music events like Waterway Nights, Rock the Row, and the summer season of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, including the Outlaw Music Festival with performances by Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan, The Avett Brothers, The Mavericks, and Tami Neilson; Rick Springfield’s ‘I Want My ‘80s Tour’ featuring Rick, John Waite, Wang Chung, and Paul Young.

Our Independence Day celebrations include patriotic events and fireworks at Town Green Park, Northshore Park, Waterway Square, Hughes Landing, and Rob Fleming Park. Woodlands Online is proud to once again be livestreaming the July 4th Parade with live commentary.

We’re also chock-full of summer programs and camps: The Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department offers summer programs and camps, including aquatics and fitness and The Woodlands Children's Museum provides workshops focused on arts and science. You’d be amazed at the sheer number of summer camps and classes being offered on our official Woodlands Online Summer Camp Guide.

As far as the summer weather goes, a local saying is, ‘If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.’ Based on the information available, expect average temperatures to range from 70°F at night to 90° - 100°F during the day. The hottest periods of the summer are predicted to be in late June, early and late July, and early to mid-August. Temperatures in Texas are projected to be 4°F above average, and rainfall is predicted to be below normal, with a typical monthly rainfall of around 3 to 5.5 inches. Humidity levels are generally higher than normal, with consistent levels of 85 - 90% in the morning and 60 - 70% in the evenings. Humidity is expected to be especially high in late summer, particularly in July, August, and September. Be aware of a possible tropical storm threat in mid-July and a hurricane in early August, with another tropical storm possibility in late August. Woodlands Online will continue to monitor weather forecasts regularly for any updates on tropical systems or other significant weather events.
