Sheriff Wesley Doolittle Meets with School and Law Enforcement Leaders to Strengthen Countywide School Safety

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle met today with superintendents from public and private school districts, along with local law enforcement leaders, to align on school safety priorities and enhance collaborative efforts to protect students, staff, and campuses across the county.
At the heart of the meeting was a unified commitment to implement and uphold House Bill 33, a recently passed law that formalizes partnerships between schools and law enforcement agencies. The bill requires joint emergency planning and annual safety training to ensure coordinated response protocols.
“This isn’t just about compliance, it’s about commitment,” said Sheriff Doolittle. “House Bill 33 gives us the framework, but it’s up to us to bring it to life. When we work together, we send a clear message: protecting our students is not negotiable.”
To build on that momentum, the Sheriff’s Office also announced the launch of Operation Safe Start, a proactive, countywide initiative aimed at increasing law enforcement visibility in school zones and surrounding neighborhoods. The operation will involve deputies working closely with campus police to support school communities, with a particular focus on traffic enforcement during student arrival and dismissal times.
“Our goal is to make sure every student starts their day safely,” added Sheriff Doolittle. “We’re committed to being a visible presence and a trusted partner for our schools and families.”
Sheriff Doolittle reiterated the importance of unity between school districts and law enforcement, emphasizing that collaboration is the strongest tool in preventing threats and enhancing overall preparedness.
