Lone Star College offers low-cost learning for 50+ population

Lone Star College Academy for Lifelong Learning offers free and low-cost classes for people ages 50 and up.

HOUSTON, TX -- From seminars on finance, history and fitness to book clubs and political discussions, Lone Star College Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) programming appeals to a range of interests for locals ages 50 and older. Those interested in becoming a member can learn more about free and low-cost classes at a series of open house events this August.

“The ALL program is an incredible opportunity for our cherished community seniors. We warmly encourage everyone to join us at our open house,” said Keith Coleman, LSC-University Park director, Continuing Education.

Open house events will highlight upcoming courses, and ALL instructors and coordinators will be available to answer questions and assist with the registration process.

  • Lone Star College-North Harris: Aug. 12, 10 a.m.-noon, Performing Arts Theatre Lobby
  • Lone Star College-CyFair: Aug. 13, noon-2 p.m., Student Commons, CENT Building
  • Lone Star College-University Park: Aug. 14, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., EMI Building, 2nd floor
  • Lone Star College-Tomball: Aug. 15, 9-11 a.m., Beckendorf Conference Center
  • Lone Star College-Houston North Victory: Aug. 15, 10 a.m.-noon, Multipurpose Room
  • Lone Star College-Kingwood: Aug. 15, 1-3 p.m., Student Conference Center
  • Lone Star College-Montgomery: Aug. 18, 1-3 p.m., Maverick Conference Center

Class topics include arts and crafts, technology, cooking, gardening, finance, hobbies, fitness and nutrition, movies and music, reading and writing, science and nature, travel and culture, and more. While many classes last an hour or two, others have multiple sessions over several weeks.

“The Academy for Lifelong Learning at Lone Star College offers endless opportunities for students to engage in their favorite hobbies, make friends and learn something new,” said Mary Elaine Hansen, LSC-Tomball ALL coordinator.

Annual memberships (Sept. 1-Aug. 31) are $25 per person and grant access to all programming across all LSC campuses. Learn more at LoneStar.edu/ALL.
