School’s in session and summer is winding down, and the events are nonstop here in The Woodlands. Here’s a supersized sample of what you can do this week.
Tuesday, August 19
Get ready to kick off the school year with an evening of fun, food, and community spirit! Join the fun today from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Community Fieldhouse for their exciting Back to School Bash. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to celebrate the start of a new school year. Enjoy open play for just $10, delicious food, and plenty of activities that everyone will love. Even better, $5 from every open play pass plus 10% of all food and drink purchases will be donated back to the elementary school of your choice. They are proud to be supporting high schools from the Grand Oaks and Oak Ridge feeder zones, ensuring that your participation helps strengthen our local school community.

Breakfast Connections is open to all members and guests of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. Members in attendance will be given the opportunity to give a 60-second commercial on the microphone. Guests will be allowed to give their name, title and company name (no commercial time). Members should plan to arrive early to Dave & Buster’s. The event will start promptly at 7:01 a.m. (because 7 o’clock is just so darned early). For added publicity, members are encouraged to bring a door prize. Registration fees vary.

The Woodlands Arts Council’s latest exhibit, “Lessons in Expression,” brings together 20 teachers whose commitment to creativity extends beyond their practice into the lives of countless students. The Woodlands Township is hosting “Salute to First Responders” Blood Drives today and next Wednesday, offering residents a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community and honor the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to public safety. Maximum Athletics’ Open Gym night is the perfect time for your child to expend some energy after a long week at school. At Open Gym night your child can participate in games and open gym time. This is a great time to learn a new skill and have some fun! The Open Gym night lasts 2.5 hours, from 7:30 pm to 10:00 p.m. (unless otherwise stated). You do not have to be enrolled in a class to participate in this event. For ages 5+. Come sign up before the spaces fill up!

Storybook Theatre today at The Woodlands Children’s Museum at 11 a.m. presents “Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes It Big” by Dolly Parton. They’re celebrating National Dog Day (August 26) a little early with the story of a French bulldog named Billy the Kid, who was born with an ear for country music. Billy heads to Nashville to follow his dream, encountering some hurdles along the way but gaining his self-confidence and some new friends. Included in the price of admission, which is $9 for adults and children 1 year and older. Cultivate a lifelong appreciation for literature by introducing your child to the enchantment of reading at a young age.
