Tradition Returns with Fiddler on the Roof

CONROE, TX -- The Players Theatre Company found the “perfect match” to launch their 59th season with the timeless and heartwarming Broadway classic “Fiddler on the Roof” which is set to open on Friday, August 29th and run weekends through September 14th at the Owen Theatre in Downtown Conroe.
Set in the small Jewish village of Anatevka, the story follows Tevye, a poor milkman, his wife and community as they navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing world. While Tevye clings to his deeply held traditions, he strives to protect his daughters and instill in them the values of their heritage. With humor, warmth and an unshakable sense of community, Fiddler on the Roof walks through the struggle between tradition and change.
To celebrate opening night of the season and the production, The Players Theatre Company plans to present an actual fiddler on their roof to entertain audience members as they arrive to the theatre. Inside, the revamped donation-only bar will serve two special show-themed drinks along with beer and wine.
“Sixty years after its premiere, Fiddler on the Roof remains both timeless and timely,” said Randy Packer, the show’s director. “This deeply human story of love, connection, and perseverance -- told with humor and one of the most memorable scores Broadway has every produced – continues to resonate across time and culture.”
You don’t have to be “rich man” to get tickets, but advanced purchase is encouraged, and the box office has reported enthusiastic sales.

After helping to restore the historic Crighton Theatre in 1979, the group produced shows there for nearly 30 years as The Crighton Players. In 2008, in a partnership with the City of Conroe, The Players Theatre Company was formed and moved to their current residence at The Owen Theatre.
