THE WOODLANDS, TX -- At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Monday, The Woodlands Fire Department (TWFD) responded to a reported trash truck fire at the intersection of Oriel Oaks and Drewdale in the Village of Sterling Ridge. Engine 105 and Truck 105 were dispatched to the scene.

The driver of the trash truck noticed smoke coming from the hopper and, following established safety procedures, dumped the load onto the roadway. Firefighters quickly contained the situation and inspected the load of recycling materials. Upon investigation, crews identified what appeared to be a bag of ashes as the likely source of ignition.

TWFD’s Hazmat team was called to assist and will remain on-site until Waste Management crews arrive to remove the spilled materials. No injuries were reported, and the incident was safely managed without further risk to the community.

The Woodlands Fire Department reminds residents that ashes, even when they appear to be cool, can remain hot enough to ignite other materials for several days. To prevent incidents like this, residents are urged to thoroughly soak ashes with water and allow them to cool completely before disposal.
