Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Splendora ISD Teacher for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Rene Jesus Tavera-Arango, 70, for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
Tavera-Arango, an elementary school teacher, has worked in area school districts for the past 14 years. He has been with Splendora ISD at Peach Creek Elementary for the past two years, following previous positions at Navasota ISD and Cleveland ISD.
The investigation was initiated after multiple students came forward with allegations of sexual abuse that occurred at the school. These allegations were immediately investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit, which led to Tavera-Arango's arrest. He is currently in custody and is held on a $250,000 bond.
This is an ongoing investigation, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information or who may have been a victim to contact the Special Victims Unit at (936) 760-5876.
A statement from Sheriff Doolittle on the arrest of Rene Jesus Tavera-Arango.
"Protecting children is one of our highest responsibilities. This individual was entrusted with the care and education of children, yet chose to abuse that position of trust to prey on the most vulnerable in our community. We will pursue anyone who harms a child with unwavering determination, and I encourage any parent or child with concerns to come forward to our Special Victims Unit so that no voice goes unheard and no child is left unprotected.”
