Jessi Cowart Announces Candidacy for Texas House of Representatives
Oak Ridge North, TX – Jessi Cowart, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas, recently announced her run for District 15 in the Texas House of Representatives. The seat is currently held by Steve Toth but will have no incumbent in the November 2026 general election as Toth vacates to challenge Dan Crenshaw for U.S. Congressional District 2.
Cowart is an IT Project Manager and a lifelong, third-generation resident of Montgomery County. She has served as Chair of the Libertarian Party of Montgomery County since 2021 and also sits on the Libertarian National Committee. As such, she is a strong advocate for third party representation in the Texas government and believes there is no time better than now to achieve it.
“Folks are fed up with the old parties and looking for something better, something that represents them,” Cowart said. “When I talk to my neighbors, they don’t care about the culture war topics that saturate the news cycle. They care about property taxes and out-of-control government spending. They want representation that’s both fiscally responsible and socially compassionate. That’s what my campaign is about - getting back to basics.”
Cowart aims to win the votes of Independents as well as those who have become disenchanted with the Republican and Democratic parties. She believes that she represents the best of what the two old parties have to offer - or at least what they used to offer.
“Republicans and Democrats from just a generation ago no longer recognize their political parties,” Cowart said. “Both parties have capitulated to the most fringe, authoritarian parts of their base and moved toward the farthest ends of the political spectrum. The political climate is absolutely toxic right now, and people are looking for someone to partner with legislators “on the other team” to bring real liberty to Texas. I’m in a unique position to do that, and I look forward to doing so here at home as well as in Austin.”
