Kill the curbside: San Jacinto River Authority wants to recycle your Christmas tree

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Instead of tossing your live Christmas tree into your trash bin and hoping that it fits (or waiting and paying extra for heavy trash), Woodlands area residents have an eco-friendly alternative. ‘Tis the season all January to take your unadorned, live tree to one of several convenient drop-off locations for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program hosted by the San Jacinto River Authority and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Each year, hundreds of trees are collected during the monthlong drive, after which SJRS employees deploy them in Lake Conroe, allowing for a continued healthy ecosystem of the lake.

The trees must not be artificial, and must be completely undecorated. By donating it to SJRA, you’re not only saving space in landfills, but also benefiting Lake Conroe’s fish habitat.

There are six drop-off locations:

Montgomery County Precinct 1, Commissioner Robert Walker

January 5 through 30, no weekend or holidays, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Donors are asked to follow tree drop off signage. If you have questions, please check in with the front desk.

Montgomery County Precinct 2, Commissioner Charlie Riley

January 5 through January 30, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
