The Champion Project to Host “Love Big: Where Love Grows” Fundraising Gala March 19 at The Blue Magnolia in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Champion Project (TCP) will host its annual fundraising gala, Love Big: Where Love Grows, on Thursday, March 19, at The Blue Magnolia, bringing the community together in support of youth living in congregate care facilities.

Proceeds from the evening will advance TCP’s mission: ensuring every youth in a congregate care facility has a church to call home, mentors they can depend on, and tutoring that helps them thrive.

The gala follows strong community momentum generated at TCP’s recent Night of Champions, where supporters gathered to celebrate the organization’s impact and help secure sponsorships for the March event.

“When a child enters foster care, stability is often the first thing lost,” said Elizabeth Chappell, co-founder of The Champion Project. “Our programs exist so no child has to wonder if someone will show up for them. Love Big is an invitation for the community to be part of that promise.”

TCP serves youth in 24/7 staffed congregate care homes — often described as modern-day orphanages — through trauma-informed mentor teams, one-on-one tutoring, and enrichment resources. These consistent relationships provide belonging, academic growth, and hope during some of the most vulnerable seasons of a child’s life.

Impact at a Glance :

• 9 congregate care homes currently served, reaching up to 100 youth ages 4–19
• 9 additional homes on the waitlist, representing nearly 100 more youth
• Students average four grade levels behind academically upon initial assessment
• Tutoring results: students receiving two hours per week for eight weeks gained an average of one full grade level in math and reading

The Love Big gala will feature an elegant evening of dining, storytelling, and meaningful opportunities to invest in the lives of foster youth across the Greater Houston area. Check-in and cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program from 6:00–9:00 p.m.
