Entergy volunteers pack more than 20,000 meals to fight hunger in Southeast Texas
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Entergy Texas partnered with The Pack Shack to host “Feed the Funnel” volunteer events to address food insecurity in our Southeast Texas communities. The high-energy events, hosted in The Woodlands and Beaumont, brought employees together to impact the lives of our most vulnerable customers, while celebrating service, unity and community.
“Our commitment to our customers goes beyond providing reliable power, as we strive to consistently support our neighbors who need a helping hand,” said Ryan Magee, director of public affairs for Entergy Texas. “Our employees continue to raise the bar when it comes to supporting the communities we serve.”
Nearly 50 Entergy volunteers worked side-by-side in an assembly-line process to pack nutritious meals that will be distributed to families in need across Southeast Texas. The event was part of the Million Meals for MLK initiative, through which our teams assembled more than 20,000 meals between the two events in The Woodlands and Beaumont, doubling the company’s mark the previous year.
“In Montgomery County, we have over 100,000 neighbors who are food insecure,” said Scott Burns, Vice President of Growth, Montgomery County Food Bank. “Having the Entergy team helping us sort food so the agencies can get it to those neighbors in need is a huge service.”
Teams across Entergy’s four-state territory participated in similar events throughout January, in pursuit of the company’s mission to generate lasting value for our communities. This is the third consecutive year that Entergy Texas has participated in the MLK initiative.
With more than a century of service in the region, we remain committed to giving back through volunteerism, advocacy, financial support and partnerships that strengthen local communities. Through efforts like the Feed the Funnel event, our employees are helping to build a brighter, more sustainable future for everyone.
