THE WOODLANDS – Last night, the Woodlands Girls Lacrosse team hosted the Cy-Fair Iron Maidens in their home opener at the Gosling Sports Fields. The game was dedicated to Morgan’s Messenger, a student-led club that emphasizes mental and physical health for student-athletes. The organization aims to eliminate the stigma around mental health within the student-athlete community, empower those who suffer, and support others who feel alone. Fueled by that message, The Woodlands put everything into this game, winning 14-3 and securing their first home win of the season.

THE GIRLS LACROSSE TEAM PICKED UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF LAST SEASON, DOMINATING FROM START TO FINISH IN A GAME DEDICATED TO A POWERFUL MESSAGE

Strong From Start To Finish

A dominant performance from start to finish, The Woodlands seemed to score at will while playing incredible defense. The Woodlands seemed to pick up right where they left off last season, as the girls finished state runners-up in last year’s tournament. Defense can be tricky in women’s lacrosse; contact is strictly officiated, making it a game of speed and timing rather than physical pressure. With that in mind, The Woodlands allowed only 1 point in the entire 1st half, showcasing the skills that made them so successful last season and boding well for their state title push. On offense, The Woodlands had 3 different players score hat tricks (three goals in a game). Katie Shingler, Jena Robinson, and Berkley Bumgardner all found the goal multiple times, using excellent shot selection and speed to overwhelm the Cy-Fair defense. If the girls can score like this all season, they will be in an excellent position to go even further than they did last year. The next game for The Woodlands will be against St. Agnes for Teacher Appreciation on February 18th. They will look to improve to 2-0 and continue their push for a state title in what looks like another great season.
