THE WOODLANDS, TX – It may not be a federal holiday, but don’t tell that to the 62 percent of Americans who celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The first recorded celebration of the day took place in Florida in 1600, thanks to a Spanish Catholic Irish vicar, with the first documented parade taking place there the next year; Boston surprisingly waited a century or so to hold its first observance in 1737, followed by New York City in 1762.

Over time, the holiday evolved from a religious observance into a secular celebration of Irish identity. St. Paddy’s Day is also celebrated by non-Irish Americans, with events across the country, and is recognized annually as part of Irish-American Heritage Month, proclaimed by Congress since 1991.

This Tuesday, be sure to wear green for fear of getting pinched, and celebrate the Emerald Isle even if you’re only Irish for the day. In The Woodlands, we have a few celebrations lined up for you, and some of them start as early as Saturday.

Saturday

Market Street is getting an early jump on the festivities with a pub crawl starting at 1:00 p.m. The celebration begins at Hyatt Centric The Woodlands, where participants will receive an official Bingo Card and a commemorative pint glass. From there, stroll through participating Market Street restaurants, enjoying festive flavors and lively atmosphere along the way. At each stop, purchase food or beverages to have your Bingo Card marked. Complete your card and return to Hyatt Centric to conclude the crawl and enter for raffle prizes. Participating locations include Hyatt Centric The Woodlands, Sixty Vines, Bosscat Kitchen & Libations, Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar, and Local Public Eatery. Enjoy chef-curated bites and festive favorites, including Irish nachos, Irish whiskey specials, and themed cocktails like the Top of the Mornin’, Irish Mule, and more.
