CONROE, TX -- On March 23rd, 2026, at approximately 8:23 am, the Conroe Police Department responded to a report of a welfare check at a Bank of America ATM located at 1906 N. Frazier St. As Conroe Police units were responding, further information came in from witnesses that a security guard had possibly been shot and a grey pickup was observed leaving the scene. Patrol units quickly arrived and discovered that a Brinks security guard had been shot, and they quickly began life- saving measures for the security guard. The security guard was quickly transported to a local area hospital by Montgomery County Hospital District EMS.
As Patrol units were securing the scene, the Conroe Police Communications Officers were receiving tracking locations from 3SI Tracking systems on money boxes that were stolen from the ATM. Conroe Police quickly responded to the updated track locations with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety.
The suspect vehicle was located in the 5000 block of N. IH-45 in Conroe, TX. Patrol units, along with the assistance of Conroe Police Criminal Investigations, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies, and DPS Troopers, conducted a felony traffic stop on a grey Dodge pickup. Before the officers on scene approached the Dodge pickup, the driver/suspect shot himself in the head. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Brinks security guard has been identified as 59-year-old Quang Truong of Spring, Texas. Truong is in critical condition and is currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is described as a 41-year-old white male, and his name is being withheld due to the current nature of the investigation. This remains an ongoing investigation that the Conroe Police Department is conducting with the assistance of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the FBI. No further information can be released at this time.
“This is a terrible tragedy for this victim and his family. This morning he left his home to do his job, having no idea that a suspect would value money over his life. He was gunned down in callous moment of greed and we pray for his recovery and we are thankful for the fact that he is still alive. We look forward to seeing him reunited with his family, and we ask you to pray for him, his family, and his doctors.” Chief Jon Buckholtz
