Racing on the Highways- Not Permitted!
CONROE, TX -- On Friday, March 20, 2026 a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Unit observed a red Ferrari speeding around the already congested traffic on Interstate 45 at a high, unsafe, rate of speed. As the Deputy moved to stop the Ferrari, he noted a silver Toyota Celica accelerating and attempting to overtake the Ferrari. Both cars maneuvered at high rates of speed, switching lanes rapidly and unsafely though the afternoon heavy traffic of I-45 near River Plantation.
Both drivers were safely stopped, and detained. During the investigation, it was discovered the Ferrari was owned by a local dealership and the driver was a mechanic working for the dealership. The driver of the Toyota stated that when the Ferrari passed him, he wanted to drive fast too, so he began attempting to race the Ferrari.
32 year old Carlos J Sanchez, the mechanic, was placed under arrest and charged with RECKLESS DRIVING. 23 year old Diego Jorge Castro, a Guatemalan citizen, was arrested and charged with RACING ON HIGHWAY. Castro remains in custody at this time with an ICE detainer.
Keep the racing on the tracks where it is safe, and help us maintain safer roadways for the thousands of people driving throughout our communities. Our goal is that everyone gets to arrive alive to their destination- and we want to share that goal with you!
