Texas Veterans Commission Encourages Recognition of Military Spouses on May 8
AUSTIN, TX -- The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) is encouraging Texas military service members and veterans to recognize and honor their spouses on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, May 8, 2026, in Texas.
The day highlights the vital role military spouses play in supporting military service members and veterans, often navigating frequent relocations, careers disruptions, and extended periods of separation. The commitment of service members’ spouses helps keep our country strong and safe.
To help Texans show their appreciation, TVC has created a downloadable graphic and video that can be shared with military spouses across the state. Texans are encouraged to download and share these resources to recognize military spouses on May 8. The graphic and video can be found on the TVC website at Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
“Military spouses hold the home together while their service member is away,” said Texas Veterans Commission Executive Director and Army veteran Tom Palladino. “They serve as parents, teachers, leaders, and unwavering sources of support. Their strength lies in
their ability to adapt and overcome, and today we recognize and thank them.”
Military families relocate 2.5 - 3 years on average, often
facing new homes, jobs, schools, and settling into new communities. Despite these challenges, spouses remain a steady and essential force behind the nation’s military readiness.
Texas is home to the largest veteran population in the nation, with more than 1.5 million veterans. Supporting military families is critical to maintaining strong communities across the state.
Texans are encouraged to take a moment on May 8 to thank a military spouse and share TVC’s resources to help amplify their contributions.
