MAGNOLIA, TX -- This evening at about 6:00 p.m., deputies responded to the 30000 block of Turriff Circle in Magnolia following a report of a missing juvenile in a flooded retention pond. Preliminary information indicates a group of teenagers were playing near a construction roadway and adjacent retention pond when a 15-year-old entered the water. The depth of the water quickly exceeded the juvenile’s height, and he went under and did not resurface. A 911 call was placed immediately by others at the scene.

First responders initiated search operations without delay. The Magnolia Fire Department led the initial response and coordinated dive operations. Multiple agencies assisted in the search efforts, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Willis Fire Department, The Woodlands Fire Department, and the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management. Resources deployed included boats and specialized dive teams.
After an extensive search, the juvenile was located underwater using sonar technology. The individual was recovered and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Detectives responded and have initiated a death investigation, which is standard protocol in drowning incidents.

At this time, there are no indications of foul play.

The identity of the deceased is not being released pending notification of extended family.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. This incident serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers associated with floodwaters, particularly following periods of heavy rainfall. Even areas that appear shallow or calm can present serious and life-threatening hazards.
