HEAL High School Apprenticeships Begin at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In mid-June, Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center excitedly welcomed more than 20 students from Aldine ISD’s HEAL High School as students began their apprenticeship journey across Memorial Hermann Health System. As the inaugural cohort in its new Youth Apprenticeship Program, these students are gaining hands-on experience through two career pathways: nursing and therapy.
Over the next two years, apprentices will work at several Memorial Hermann campuses, including Northeast, The Woodlands, TIRR and Greater Heights, while completing high school. Through structured, paid learning experiences, they'll explore careers in health care, build professional skills and gain a firsthand look at what it means to be part of a team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.
As students progress through Apprentice I and Apprentice II experiences, they'll spend time in patient care environments, receive mentorship, participate in professional development and learn about the many roles that make our health system successful. Along the way, they'll see how colleagues across Memorial Hermann work together every day to support our patients, one another and the communities they serve.
“We're grateful to the teams helping make this program possible and look forward to providing these first apprentices with a meaningful experience at Memorial Hermann,” shares Memorial Hermann The Woodlands VP and COO Kate Willis. “Their curiosity, enthusiasm and fresh perspectives will help shape the future of health care—and we're excited to be part of their journey.”
This program is about more than introducing students to the workforce. It's an investment in the future of health care and in the communities Memorial Hermann serve. By creating meaningful opportunities for students early in their educational journey, Memorial Hermann is helping build a stronger, more diverse pipeline of future health care professionals.
HEAL High School was established in Aldine ISD through a unique partnership with Memorial Hermann to expand awareness, access, and opportunity for students interested in health care careers, particularly those from historically underserved communities. Together, Memorial Hermann and Aldine ISD are helping students discover what's possible while supporting long-term workforce development goals in health care.
