Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District invites community to free 2026 Symposium celebrating 25 years of protecting the county’s groundwater
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD) invites the public and water focused stakeholders to participate in the 2026 Lone Star GCD Symposium Celebrating the District's 25 Anniversary, taking place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lone Star Convention Center, 9055 Airport Road, Conroe, TX 77303.
The symposium’s purpose is to promote water awareness and foster meaningful discussion among groundwater conservation districts, river authorities, elected officials, water professionals, and the public. Attendance is free, though registration is required due to limited seating. Lunch will be provided, and complimentary water and screening are also available for eligible participants.
“Protecting Montgomery County’s groundwater is a shared responsibility,” said Lone Star GCD representatives.“This symposium brings together those working in the water sector and members of the community to strengthen understanding, support informed decision-making, and celebrate 25 years of service.”
In partnership with the Texas Well Owner Network (TWON), LSGCD will offer complimentary water well screening for registered, private exempt wells located in Montgomery County. All groundwater wells in Montgomery County are required to be registered with LSGCD. Water samples will be screened for:
- Total coliform bacteria
- E.coli
- Nitrate-nitrogen
- Salinity
After registration is completed, participants will receive instructions for the screening process, including sample collection, sample drop-off date, and drop-off location. Screening results will be provided during the symposium, alongside an educational session led by Dr. Joel Pigg of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and TWON coordinator, titled “Well Informed.” This session will cover water well basics, Water Wells 101, water quality, and an explanation of participant sample results.
To participate in the screening, attendees must select “Water Well Screening” at checkout when placing their Lone Star GCD Symposium ticket order. While symposium tickets are free, space and funding for screening are limited, and interested participants are encouraged to register early.
The symposium is designed for a broad range of participants, including:
- Utility districts and water system operators
- City and County leaders and policymakers
- Developers and land use professionals
- Water professionals and hydrogeologists
- Gardeners and native plant enthusiasts
- Residents interested in learning more about water and local resources
