Library Events in The Woodlands – August 24 - 29, 2026
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Looking for free things to do in The Woodlands this week? The George & Cynthia Mitchell Library and Kevin Brady Library are offering a full lineup of free library events, children's storytimes, teen activities, technology classes, book discussions, crafts and educational programs for residents of all ages.
The Woodlands is home to two outstanding libraries within the Township: the George & Cynthia Mitchell Library, located at 8125 Ashlane Way, and the Kevin Brady Library, located at 2250 Buckthorne Place.
In addition to thousands of books, both Montgomery County libraries offer computer and internet access, research and reference services, movies, educational classes, workshops, activities and programs for children, teens and adults.
Both libraries are open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The libraries are closed on Sundays.
Woodlands Online presents this weekly guide to free events and activities at The Woodlands libraries. All programs, classes and events are free and open to the public, although some require advance registration.
Events and programs that are already full are not included in this weekly listing. Schedules are subject to change without notice. Anyone requiring accommodations to participate is encouraged to contact the host library at least three days before the event.
George & Cynthia Mitchell Library Events in The Woodlands
Monday, August 24
Book Babies Storytime | 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Parents and caregivers are invited to bring babies ages 0 to 18 months for a fun morning of rhymes, songs and fingerplays at Mitchell Library. Seated older siblings are welcome, and age-appropriate toys will be available for free play during the second half of the program.
Teen Hang | 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Teens ages 12 to 18 can enjoy an evening of games, coloring, simple crafts, music, snacks or simply relaxing with friends.
Tuesday, August 25
Family Storytime | 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Designed for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers, this interactive storytime features stories and activities that promote early literacy and give families an opportunity to connect with others in The Woodlands community.
Google Sheets Class
Learn the basics of Google Sheets in this beginner-friendly technology class. Participants will learn how to enter and organize data, use basic formulas and navigate the program. A Google account is required. Registration is required.

Family Storytime | 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Children ages 1 to 3 and their caregivers can enjoy stories and activities designed to encourage early literacy, learning and social interaction.
Thursday, August 27
Movie Matinee for Adults | 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Enjoy a free movie afternoon at Mitchell Library featuring Song Sung Blue (2025), starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson.
The PG-13 film tells the true-life story of “Lightning and Thunder,” a Milwaukee husband-and-wife team whose Neil Diamond tribute act leads them through both incredible success and devastating heartbreak.
Popcorn and snacks will be provided, making this a great opportunity to enjoy a big-screen experience with friends and fellow movie fans.
Saturday, August 29
Teen Collegiate Athlete Information Session | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Teens interested in playing college sports and learning about athletic recruitment can attend this informative session led by Matt Arant, former Assistant Director of Admission at Franklin & Marshall College.
The presentation will cover the college athletic recruitment timeline, the role of admissions and athletics liaisons, and tips for prospective student-athletes preparing for the college admissions process.
The presentation will also be available virtually.

Monday, August 24
Preschool Storytime | 9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Designed for children ages 3 and older, Preschool Storytime features longer stories and more complex activities while helping children practice listening skills and self-control.
Tuesday, August 25
Toddler Storytime | 9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Children ages 18 months to 3 years can enjoy books with simple language and predictable stories while learning storytime manners and developing important early literacy skills. Tickets are not required.
1-on-1 Tech Help | 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Need help with technology? Schedule a one-on-one session with the Kevin Brady Library Innovation Lab Specialist to get answers to your technology questions.

Teen Pencil Bag Craft | 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Teens ages 13 to 17 can get creative and prepare for the new school year by decorating their own pencil bag. All supplies will be provided.

Book Publishing Options | 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Aspiring authors can learn more about the book publishing process during this presentation with seasoned author Mike Kowis. The session will cover three publishing options, available book formats and typical publishing costs.

Back-to-School Crafts | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Families looking for free kids activities in The Woodlands can stop by Kevin Brady Library for a fun Back-to-School Crafts event hosted in partnership with Celebree School of The Woodlands.
Designed for children ages 0 to 6 but open to all ages, this come-and-go event will feature educational and creative crafts celebrating the start of the new school year.
3D Printer Orientation | 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Discover the possibilities of 3D printing at Kevin Brady Library. This orientation is required before participants can reserve time to use the library's 3D printer.
The class will be held in the computer lab. Participants ages 13 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the orientation and future appointments.
