Conroe Police Arrest 3 Suspects in Catalytic Converter Theft Ring Using Flock Cameras

CONROE, TX -- On the evening of September 7, Conroe Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at the Abbey Apartments, located at 231 IH-45 North. Information provided to officers indicated that several individuals may have been stealing catalytic converters.

When officers arrived, they learned that a red Chevrolet Malibu believed to be involved had already left the area. Officers later confirmed that a catalytic converter had been stolen from a Toyota Tundra at the location.

Using the Flock cameras, officers located a nearby camera hit on a red Malibu. Further investigation linked the vehicle’s license plate to an August 24 catalytic converter theft at The Towers apartment complex on FM 1488.

Information on the suspect vehicle was immediately shared with patrol officers. Additional Flock research showed the Malibu had recently been in the area of North Loop 336 West.

As officers began checking the area, a theft-in-progress call was received at Montgomery Park Apartments off North Loop 336 West. Witnesses reported hearing power tools and seeing a red Malibu at the location with several males underneath a truck.

Officers quickly converged on the area and located the red Malibu along with three suspects:

• Tameka Edwards, 24
• Ke Andre Felix, 22
• Antoine Benson, 23

All three were detained. During the investigation, officers located several reciprocating saws, additional saw blades, multiple catalytic converters, and a Glock 9mm handgun in the suspects’ possession. Officers also discovered that a nearby vehicle had its catalytic converter stolen, while a Toyota Tundra had cut marks around its catalytic converter consistent with an attempted theft.

Following the investigation, all three suspects were arrested and charged with Theft of Catalytic Converter with Firearm, a third-degree felony. All three suspects were identified as being from the Houston area.

Officers later received information indicating the suspects may also be connected to several other catalytic converter thefts in Montgomery County.

The quick actions of responding officers, combined with information from witnesses, Flock cameras, and investigative tools, allowed officers to be in the area and quickly respond to a theft in progress and apprehend the suspects. From the initial dispatch and identification of the suspect vehicle to the apprehension of the suspects at the second crime scene, the entire incident unfolded within one hour.

This investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information will be released at this time.
