CONROE, TX -- Every September, the Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) joins thousands of libraries nationwide in a tradition that started back in 1987 - celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month. It is our favorite time of year because we get to remind our neighbors that a free library card is one of the most powerful tools you can own. Whether you are a student working toward academic goals, an adult solving business challenges or pursuing lifelong learning, or a child discovering the magic of reading, the library connects everyone in our community to many opportunities.

No matter your age, background, or goals, there is something for everyone at your local library. We have more than books for you--your free card unlocks a huge digital world of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and trusted multimedia databases. If you love to create and explore, you can visit our specialized study spaces or dive into technology with our Innovate@MCMLS makerspaces.

Your card also gives you access to our unique Library of Things. Instead of books, you can check out items like puzzles, games or family adventure LEAP backpacks—kits with fun activities including bird watching and beach combing! Plus, if you want to research history and preserve your family or local history, our Genealogy & Preservation Center offers specialized digitization equipment to help you.

MCMLS libraries are community hubs. Throughout September, every MCMLS location is hosting a lineup of free programs as fall begins. Check our online Events Calendar and join us for interactive storytimes, book clubs, writers' and craft groups, and helpful technology workshops.

We are also reaching out in the community. Currently, we have plans to promote Library Card Sign-Up month at several schools, and at Hats Off to Reading, a free, family literacy event in partnership with Conroe ISD at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on September 9, 5:30-7:30pm. On Saturday, September 19, the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library we will be popping up at the The Woodlands Lowe's and the Public Relations team will be at H-E-B Spring Creek from 11am-1pm, and the Harper's Trace location, 2-4pm.

Stop by our table at any of these events to grab some helpful library information, chat with our friendly team, and sign up for your card right on the spot. And you can always visit your local library for a card, or register online for a digital access card today. This September, remember to join in and sign up—because a MCMLS library card, opens doors and adventures.

We will also have a drawing for a gift card for each location. Just sign up for a card, renew your existing card, or check out materials to be entered in the drawing. And don't forget to Follow Us On Facebook to see all the great happenings at our libraries. And visit our website at countylibrary.org
