Conroe Police Use Drones and Flock Cameras to Arrest Man Accused of Stalking Ex-Girlfriend
CONROE, TX -- On September 12, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Conroe Police officers were dispatched to an attempt-to-locate call after a female victim contacted 911 and reported that her ex-boyfriend was actively following her while she traveled on West Davis St. (Highway 105) near FM 3083.
Since June, the Conroe Police Department has received multiple reports from the victim involving her ex-boyfriend, identified as 31-year-old Matthew Young, who had allegedly been harassing and stalking her. The victim has an active protective order against Young, which he had previously been accused of violating, resulting in an arrest by the Conroe Police Department in July.
As officers responded to the area, a Drone as First Responder (DFR) pilot launched a drone to assist in locating the suspect vehicle, described as a gray Ford Expedition. Dispatchers remained on the phone with the victim and instructed her to drive to the Conroe Police Department. During that time, the victim lost sight of the Expedition, which was believed to have been delayed at a traffic signal.
The drone arrived in the area and located the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on West Davis St. The DFR pilot began tracking the Expedition and relaying its location to responding officers. The drone lost sight of the vehicle but continued searching the area until the drone needed to return to its dock to recharge.
While the drone was returning, the pilot utilized the department’s Flock camera system to narrow the search area for the Expedition. The pilot observed that the vehicle had passed several Flock cameras in the area and was able to determine where it had last been seen. A second DFR drone was launched and responded to the area, and the pilot began searching for the vehicle. The DFR pilot quickly located the suspect vehicle and continuously relayed its location to responding officers as they converged on the area. Officers ultimately conducted a traffic stop as the vehicle traveled southbound on the Interstate 45 South Frontage Road.
The driver, identified as Matthew Young, was detained and, after an investigation, was arrested for Violation of Protective Order/Stalking, a third-degree felony.
This incident highlights the teamwork and coordination between Conroe Police Department dispatchers, patrol officers, DFR pilots, and the department’s technology resources. By combining real-time information from the victim, Flock Safety cameras, and the department’s new DFR drone program, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, continuously update responding officers on its location, and safely take the suspect into custody.
This case remains under investigation, and no additional information will be provided at this moment.
