Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week: Carter Cass Scores 3 TDs In The War Of The Woods
THE WOODLANDS – This week, we saw The Woodlands Highlanders take the lead in the district thanks to a big win over the College Park Cavaliers. Throughout the game, the weather certainly didn’t cooperate, with wet conditions defining much of the action. Normally, teams elect to run the ball instead of throwing in such conditions, but the Highlanders didn’t seem to get that memo, putting up 227 yards and 3 TDs through the air. Highlighting that passing attack was junior WR Carter Cass, who put up an impressive 129 yards on 10 catches and scored all 3 receiving TDs. With such an impressive performance in such a big game, Cass easily earns the Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week.
Highlights This Season
Last season, Cass saw his involvement increase as the season progressed, finishing his sophomore campaign with 18 catches for 298 yards and 3 TDs in just 8 games. In 2026, Cass has done a fantastic job building on last year's success, already surpassing his yardage total in just 5 games. He currently leads the team in catches (30), yards (327), yards per game (65.4), and touchdowns (8), establishing himself as Kaden Copelin’s favorite target and a Swiss Army knife who can be used all around the field. With both Cass and Copelin juniors, this extra year of playing together could lead to strong results this season and next.
In Friday’s game against College Park, Cass seemingly ignored the wet conditions, catching nearly every pass that came his way. He led in almost every offensive metric, posting one of the best outings we’ve seen from a District 13 WR this season. Cass should continue to rise in this offense, and it will be interesting to see how he builds on this game this week. The Highlanders will need him in top form against Willis this Friday, as a win there could seal the district title in just 6 weeks.
