First Methodist Conroe (FMC) values worship that cultivates an authentic experience of God's presence and enables people to respond to Him through prayer, praise, proclamation, and obedience. The Traditional Worship Director provides musical, spiritual, and organizational leadership for FMC's traditional worship ministry. Working collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and other ministry staff, the Traditional Worship Director plans and leads biblical, meaningful, and engaging worship experiences rooted in the rich traditions of Christian worship while remaining attentive to the spiritual needs of today's congregation.

The Traditional Worship Director is responsible not only for musical excellence but also for developing people. This position recruits, equips, encourages, and disciples musicians and volunteers, creating opportunities for individuals to use their gifts in service to Christ and the church.

Responsibilities
Spiritual & Worship Leadership
• Provide spiritual and musical leadership for FMC's traditional worship services.
• Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and other worship leaders to plan services that support the
sermon, Scripture, church calendar, and overall direction of FMC.
• Select hymns, choral music, instrumental music that are theologically sound and appropriate for each
service.
• Create worship that encourages participation and provides meaningful opportunities to encounter
God.
• Demonstrate Christian discipleship and Christ-centered leadership.
• Approach worship planning as ministry and discipleship rather than simply musical preparation or
performance.

Music & Ensemble Leadership
• Provide leadership and direction for traditional worship choirs, ensembles, instrumentalists,
accompanists, and other musicians.
• Conduct rehearsals that are organized, spiritually meaningful, and musically effective.
• Select music appropriate to the abilities of participating musicians while maintaining high standards
of preparation and excellence.
• Develop a balanced repertoire incorporating hymns, sacred choral literature, and other musical
expressions appropriate for traditional Christian worship.
• Coordinate musicians and ensembles for Sunday worship and other services throughout the year.
• Provide musical leadership for seasonal and special worship services, including Advent, Christmas,
Lent, Holy Week, Easter, and other significant occasions.
• Coordinate music for funerals, memorial services, weddings, and other special services as requested
and appropriate.

Volunteer Recruitment & Development
• Recruit, equip, encourage, and retain musicians and worship volunteers.
• Create intentional opportunities for new people to become involved in the traditional worship
ministry.
• Develop musicians and volunteers spiritually and musically, helping them understand their role as
worship leaders and servants of the congregation.
• Build a healthy ministry culture characterized by hospitality, teamwork, preparation, encouragement,
accountability, and spiritual growth.
• Identify and develop emerging leaders who can assume greater responsibility within the worship
ministry.
• Regularly communicate with musicians and volunteers regarding schedules, rehearsals,
expectations, and ministry opportunities.

Worship Planning & Collaboration
• Participate actively in worship planning meetings and other appropriate staff meetings.
• Maintain regular communication with the Lead Pastor regarding upcoming services, sermon themes,
special worship elements, and ministry priorities.
• Collaborate with the Modern Worship Director and other worship leaders to strengthen FMC's overall
worship ministry.
• Work with AVL, Creative Services, Facilities, and other ministry areas to ensure worship services are
appropriately supported.
• Promote unity among FMC's different worship expressions, recognizing that traditional and modern
worship serve one church and one mission.
• Collaborate on churchwide and combined worship experiences when appropriate.
• Support worship and ministry initiatives across FMC's campuses when needed.

Administration & Stewardship
• Develop and manage the traditional worship ministry budget in accordance with FMC's financial
policies and approved budget.
• Steward church resources responsibly and make recommendations regarding music, instruments,
equipment, and other ministry needs.
• Maintain music libraries, licensing, subscriptions, and other worship resources.
• Coordinate scheduling for musicians, accompanists, ensembles, rehearsals, and special worship
events.
• Ensure compliance with applicable music licensing and copyright requirements.
• Provide appropriate supervision, direction, communication, and feedback to employees, contractors,
interns, and volunteers under the position's leadership.
• Maintain organized records and administrative systems.

Ministry Development
• Increase meaningful congregational participation in worship.
• Develop and expand the worship volunteer base.
• Create pathways for musicians of different ages and abilities to participate and grow.
• Strengthen the spiritual formation and community of worship ministry participants.
• Develop future worship and music leaders.
• Evaluate existing programs and traditions to ensure they continue to support FMC's mission and
ministry priorities.
• Explore appropriate new approaches while honoring the theological and musical foundations of
traditional worship.

Qualifications & Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
• A growing Christian faith and commitment to the mission and ministry of the local church.
• An understanding of worship as an essential part of Christian discipleship.
• Demonstrated experience leading traditional worship, choirs, ensembles, and musicians.
• Strong conducting, musicianship, and worship-planning skills.
• Knowledge of Christian hymnody, sacred choral literature, and the Christian worship calendar.
• Ability to lead both professional musicians and volunteers with encouragement and accountability.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and members of the congregation.
• Ability to manage multiple services, rehearsals, projects, and deadlines effectively.
• A commitment to excellence without allowing musical performance to overshadow the purpose of
worship.
• Bachelor's degree in music, church music, worship, or a related field preferred; equivalent education
and significant ministry experience may be considered.

Compensation:

60,000-70,000 per year
