OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – It was almost a carnival-like atmosphere at Oak Ridge High School Friday night. Baseball, softball, and boys’ soccer games were played simultaneously within a football field’s distance between them.

The War Eagles baseball team is hosting the War Eagle Classic through Saturday while the Oak Ridge High School softball team was getting a visit from non-district foe Tomball. Over on the football field, the War Eagles boys’ soccer team was taking on College Park.

The Cavaliers took the measure of the boys’ soccer match by a 4-0 score to remain atop the District 14-5A standings. It was the fifth victory in a row for the Cavaliers (13-3, 6-1). College Park built a 3-0 lead by halftime and added to that with a second-half goal.

The Oak Ridge High School softball team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Tomball. Danielle White blasted a two-run homer and Taylor Ervin added two hits.

The Lady War Eagles return to the Klein Tournament Saturday.

The Oak Ridge High School baseball team fell by the same score to Channelview Friday. The War Eagles play at noon Saturday against St. Thomas, whose coach is former Houston Astros fan favorite Craig Biggio.

The tournament concludes with a 2:30 p.m. game between Deer Park and Channelview and then the nightcap at 5 p.m. when New Caney takes on Huffman.

The War Eagles were off and running Thursday, belting Deer Park 18-7 in the tournament opener. Blake Stoehr went 4 for 4 with a grand slam and Cody Althouse was 2 for 2 with a three-run homer.

That helped Oak Ridge overcome a five-run second inning by the Deer. T.J. Hayes picked up the victory on the mound for the War Eagles.

“We had one really good inning and came out and had one really bad inning,” War Eagles coach Stacy Scheiner said. “T.J. Hayes came in and did a great job. All in all it’s a good start to the season. It’s early.”

The War Eagles scored four runs in the second inning and added nine more in the third to win going away.

Oak Ridge dropped Thursday’s nightcap, 9-6 to former district foe New Caney, which dropped down to Class 4A this season.
