THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands High School boys’ basketball team established itself early in Friday’s 80-36 thumping of visiting Bryan in a game billed as a battle for first place in District 14-5A.

But the No. 25 state-ranked Highlanders made short work of it. In fact, the outcome was decided midway through the first quarter. The BCS National Champion Crimson Tide of Alabama have nothing on The Woodlands, which bolted to a 24-4 lead after one quarter and like its football counterparts cruised to victory leaving no doubt as to which team is No. 1.

The Woodlands improves to 4-0 in District 14-5A play (20-5 overall) while evening Bryan’s league record at 2-2.

Garret Colonna led a trio of Highlanders in double figures with 20 points. Cody Mason contributed with 18 points and Hayden Galatas added another 14 points as the Highlanders won every quarter. They increased their lead to 47-16 by halftime and took a 61-22 advantage into the final period.

The Oak Ridge High School boys’ basketball team traveled on Friday, falling 51-40 at A&M Consolidated. Josh Myers scored eight points for the War Eagles, who trailed 13-7 at the quarter and 25-18 at the break.
