Alspaugh's Ace Hardware and Alspaugh's Sterling Events come to The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Rick and Dorothy Alspaugh, owners of Alspaugh’s ACE Hardware and Sterling Events in Kingwood, attended an industry conference in Atlanta where they ended up buying the ACE Hardware store in The Woodlands. It wasn’t something they set out to do, but the opportunity presented itself, and they took it.<p>

“We were in a hardware show in Atlanta when one of the ACE business representatives came up to us and said, ‘The Woodlands store is available because the owner wants to retire,’ and we told him right then and there that we would take it,” Rick said. “That’s how we bought the store in The Woodlands. We weren’t thinking about it – we went there to buy fertilizer and flappers and ended up buying a hardware store.”

The Alspaugh’s took possession of the Ace Hardware in The Woodlands at the end of June last year and hit the ground sprinting! They hired a wonderful staff and also built out a large space for a beautiful new gift shop called Alspaugh’s Sterling Events. With over 40 fabulous brands to choose from including Pandora, Arthur Court (elegant and decorative serving accessories), Vera Bradley, Life is Good, Lenny & Eva, Lilly Pulitzer, Kameleon Jewelry & Charms, Lily and Laura Bracelets, Lamp Berger, Volatile and Yellow Box sandals , Waxing Poetic Jewelry, Wilton Armetale, Mud Pie (creative, fun, and adorable gifts for babies and small children), Charm It (accessories for girls, tweens, and teens), Crabtree and Evelyn, and much, much more, it truly is a shopper’s paradise!

“The Sterling Events store has been doing very well in Kingwood,” said Rick. “It’s a very nice department and we just knew that it would work well in that neighborhood in the Woodlands.”

Dorothy opened the new Sterling Events store in The Woodlands on June 13. “That’s the date that we signed the original note to buy the Kingwood store 25 years ago, and my wife was born on the 13th- it’s a lucky day for us,” he said.
