THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Thelma, a resident of Unlimited Care Assisted Living Personal Care Cottage in Oak Ridge, recently celebrated her 101st birthday along with family and staff. She enjoyed presents and birthday cake while telling stories about her life and also talked about the fact that she doesn’t feel her age. “I actually feel about twenty years younger,” she told her daughter Beverly Smythia of Conroe, TX, and her niece Linda Knupple of Kountze, TX.

Thelma was born in McComb, MS, and moved to Silsbee, TX when she was two years old. She married in 1929 and had two children. Noting memorable parts of her lifetime, Thelma recalled World War I and the flu epidemic, at a time when there were no antibiotics and limited medication, many people died.

Buck Buckholtz, who has owned and operated Unlimited Care Assisted Living Personal Care Cottages since 1998 along with his wife, Terri, said “Thelma is amazing. She is truly an example of an individual whose psychic age is much younger than her chronological age. My wife Terri and I, along with all of our caregivers, have so enjoyed having Thelma make her home at our cottage.”

In addition to the Oak Ridge cottage, Unlimited Care Assisted Living Personal Care Cottages has seven other cottages located in The Woodlands, Spring, Cypresswood, and Kingwood areas.
